Acne Scars form if an infection develops in acne and the skin repairs itself just enough to remain healthy but leaves discoloured and / or pock marks on the skin, removing them can be both difficult and expensive to remove.
Many treatments for acne scars can be bought in a shop ranging from oils and creams to microneedling. The most commonly used treatments for acne scars are the creams or skin masks which can (but not always) be affective but take a long time for any improvements to start to show as a huge percentage of creams don’t get absorbed by the skin. Therefore creams are often wasted and so are not economical.
Another treatment that can be bought to treat acne scars is the dermaroller. This is a device for microneedling; you gently roll the skin roller over the scarred area of skin to open the pores of your skin causing it to believe that it is injured inducing the production of collagen and elastin which eventually heals the damaged skin.
After using the derma roller the pores on the top layer of skin remain open for as long as making this the best time to put on creams as they are significantly better absorbed when the pores are open as opposed to when the pores are closed. This reduces the waste in creams and increases the effectiveness of the derma roller.
There are more extreme methods to remove acne scars however these are all expensive and have to be carried out by professionals and then they’re not even guaranteed to work! These include; Micro dermabrasion, laser treatments, chemical peals and also skin needling can be done by a professional more vigorously using a longer needle size and numbing cream.
In my experience in treating acne scars I have found that the most result effective and cost effective treatment is derma rolling at home as it is relatively cheap and as it works by inducing the healing process is the most natural way to heal acne scars.
