The process of astral projection is a natural ability with which everyone is born. In fact, many people actually do it without even being aware of it. Our aim however should be to astral project while we?re physically conscious, thus allowing ourselves to control what your astral body is doing.
While this article is an attempt to help people learn how to astral project using different techniques, you should keep in mind that astral projection is a personal experience so ideally, you need to apply a technique that works best for yourself. Furthermore, we?re taking the liberty of assuming that you are already familiar with the meaning of astral projection.
The following technique to help you understand how to astral project is a five-step process which can be done as you're lying in bed before you fall asleep.
*While lying there, completely relax your body so that you enter a deep state of relaxation. Lie on your back and start tensing then relaxing every muscle in your toes and feet. Work your way upward through your body from your toes to your head. You might feel discomfort or heaviness the first times you try this; but this is normal because you just aren't used to feeling so relaxed.
*Second ? Focus on your breathing. Take deep, slow breaths and concentrate on the feeling of the air filling your lungs. Exhale slowly, visualizing your tension and stress leaving your body each time you exhale.
*This is the stage where you?ll need to be aware of two things in particular, the first being the way your physical body feels and the second being your astral body. Your physical body should feel heavy and difficult to move, almost as one would imagine a large boulder to be. As one pays attention their astral body, try focusing on how you would imagine the weightlessness of bubbles to be, gently drifting on the air currents. Focus on the absolute weightlessness of your astral body, feeling it starting to float away. Keep reminding yourself that your physical body is heavy, while your astral body is completely weightless.
*Fourth ? Now you may have the experience of being able to see perfectly well in your darkened room which should now be illuminated by a purple light ? even though your eyes are closed! Turn your attention to the light which is coming from your ceiling.
*Envision yourself pulling the drawing imagine that you are pulling the ceiling light into you. As you're doing this you might well get the sensation that you're floating. If you feel this, you can likely look "down" at your own physical body lying still on the bed.
Once you reach this stage, you have consciously astral projected for the first time. Now you're ready to astral travel. Here's another method if the above doesn't seem to work for you.
This second method is commonly known as the gazing technique, which just as with the first method, is also best done when going to bed. The main difference is, with the gazing method, all you require is an object on which you can focus such as a picture hanging on the wall, the moon outside if it?s within view, or in fact anything you choose.
Of course, you must make sure you can gaze at the object as you lie in bed. Now, essentially you're going to stare at this object. If you feel your attention wandering, bring it back to the object. You should soon begin to feel your eyelids getting heavy. Just keep staring; eventually your eyes will close but you should still be able to see the object as if your eyes are still open. Don't turn your head; keep "staring". You'll come to a point where you want to sit up or stand up, and if you feel yourself do this don't be alarmed if you can see your own physical body lying asleep on the bed.
You may need to practice these methods several times over before you start getting results, so the important thing is to never give up. If you let yourself grow frustrated or anxious this will only interfere with your ability astral project.
It's not really all that important how you start to astral project. Whatever works for you is great; the important thing is to let your subconscious mind know that it's OK for your astral body to depart to travel the astral plane and that there's nothing to fear. One way you can get this message across to your subconscious mind is by using affirmations.
There do exist some shortcuts to becoming able to consciously astral project for those who might not have the patience to try over and over until they get it right. These should enable you to astral project on just your first attempt or second.
Hypnosis is perhaps the most powerful tool available as it gets you into an ideal state relaxation. Additionally, a really good session will also enable you to grasp and accept the principles of astral projection when you experience it.
Recent advancements in sound technology have brought to light, a concept known as 'binaural beats'which are also proving to be very useful in helping people achieve a state of deep relaxation which is essential for successful astral projection.
Learning how to astral project isn't actually that difficult. It's really just about practicing. This is an ability which every man and woman already possesses; it just takes a little work and a little patience to learn to do it at will. Just like being able to read, it's something you're born with the capacity to do ? but you do need to practice to become expert in it.
