Self esteem is when you feel good about yourself and have a good sense of self worth. However, you have low self esteem when you feel bad about yourself. There are things you can do for overcoming low self esteem.

When you have low self esteem you need to do a soul search to figure out why. Find out what you do not like about yourself or are you ashamed about something. Try to find where your low self esteem is coming from.

Once you figure out why you have low self esteem you will feel a sense of relief. It is possible you were told you are ugly or stupid. It is vital that you know where your self esteem comes from. It can be hurtful but in the end it will pay off.

Acting as though you have high self esteem will make you feel good about yourself. However, do not pretend actually feel well.

Once you focus on your positive traits and practice feeling good, you will learn to overcome your low self esteem.

You will often feel as though you cannot accomplish certain things when you have low self esteem. This is a common trait. Sadly, this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. It is advisable that you learn how capable you are of doing things and you will find out it is more than you think.

To find out your capabilities, try something new. Maybe, take a photography or pottery class. Try something daring like skydiving or para-sailing. The activity or skill is not what is important, it is just you getting out and trying something you never have before. With these new skills you will be able to add to your level of confidence. Once you put your mind to it, you will figure out that you can accomplish things and there is nothing you cannot do.
