Acne Scars develop if an infection develops in acne and the skin repairs itself enough to remain healthy but leaves pigmented and / or pock marks on the face, removing them can be both difficult and costly to treat.
There are many over the counter ‘cures’ for acne scars ranging from creams to micro needling. The most regularly used treatments for acne scars are the creams or skin masks which can (but not always) be affective but take a long time for any improvements to begin to show as a big percentage of creams are not absorbed by the skin. Creams are, therefore, wasted and so are not economical.
Another gadget that can be purchased for treating acne scars is the dermaroller. This is a tool for microneedling; you carefully roll the derma roller over the effected area of skin to open the pores of your skin making it believe that it is injured triggering the production of collagen and elastin which heals the skin over time.
Using the derma roller causes the pores on the skin remain open for up to an hour making this the best time to put on creams as they are much better absorbed when the pores are open as opposed to when the pores are closed. This reduces the waste in creams and heightens the effectiveness of the derma roller.
There are more extreme methods to get rid of acne scars however these are all expensive and have to be carried out by professionals and then they’re not even guaranteed to work! These include; Micro dermabrasion, laser treatments, chemical peals and also skin needling can be done by a professional more vigorously using a longer needle size and numbing cream.
In my experience in treating acne scars I have found that the most result effective and cost effective treatment is derma rolling at home as it is relatively cheap and as it works by inducing the healing process is the most natural way to heal acne scars.
